Between Two Places
March 10, 2010
I float
Between two worlds
Silence washes over me
Blessed release
From the noise
Of too many lives
Too many thoughts
Too many people
The ocean crashes against my world
Violent
And reassuring
That here there is a minute of peace
A measure of solitude
A moment to be still
The salt in the air
Clings to my skin
A gentle reminder of quieter times
And quiet places
Thoughts Into Dust
January 23, 2010
One quiet moment
My thoughts pour out
With no mold to hold them
and give them form
they melt
in the heat of the day
Evaporating in the busyness of life
Forgotten before they took flight
Lost before being
found
If I think and therefore I am,
What if my thoughts have no bearing
And wither into dust?
Here In the Snow
December 27, 2009
My breath catches in the cold tonight
How simple a thing
That captivates me
A fresh snow fall
Dancing
dancing
In the night
Blanketing the earth
Quieting my thoughts
Hammering in my head
Quiet
quiet
The wind draws my coat tight
The snow melts in my hair
And my mind is at ease
Here in the snow
One More Christmas Snow
December 14, 2009
I wonder if anyone else is watching it
Wishing for it to be snow
How many years have gone by
Now one moment is all it takes
Nostalgia taking its bittersweet toll
Just one more Christmas snow
That's all that I ask
When the Dark Holds Mysteries
November 11, 2009
Shy away from the cruel morning hours
The sea of joyous moments crashes
Against the rocks of reality
But oh those precious moments
When the world is made to be laughed about
When the dark holds mysteries
and not monsters
When tomorrow is full of promise
and not despair
When tears are from laughter
and not sorrow
The first snowfall of the year
The first fall colors blooming
The first flower of spring
The first full day of summer
Let the morning stay back long enough
For me to remember
The warmth of a grandfather's embrace
The innocence of a child's laugh
The beauty of hands entwined
and the simplicity of smile
To Catch the Rain
November 08, 2009
Trying to catch the rain
Keep it from washing away the past
And ruining the future
The inevitable tide of time
Will push us on our way
But when the rain comes
And we cling to those moments
Where life seems so uncertain
Which has the right:
Gripping with all our might
Or mercifully letting go?
A Thought in the Quiet
October 31, 2009
I grasp for them
but the grains of sand fall through the cracks
They burn like lanterns floating in the dark
Melting the busyness of life
into a cohesive unit for me to marvel at
Yet without those precious moments
To step back and consider
those thoughts turn to ash with brilliant simplicity
The flood of life washes over them
Disappearing beneath the demands
and those little pieces of myself disappear
Back into the murkiness of my consciousness
Striving to keep up with everyday life
forgetting the importance of those quiet moments
After Long Years
August 23, 2009
What happened to our innocence when we began?
When we dreamed of life together
Chasing the stars
And catching the moon?
Where did your laughter go
That warmed my heart
In the cold of a lonely world?
Take my hand
And we'll visit those places
And remember
Remember to become
Better than we were
Better than we are
After long years
Our roads wound together as one
Laughter and tears the trail behind
And dreams the road ahead
My heart yearns for you
More deeply with each beat
More purely with each day
More desperately with each kiss
